Great book for your average to beginning griller!
Christopher Prieto has a written a strong book about BBQ and grilling. It is written for your average person who enjoys grilling OR someone who wants to learn how to grill and smoke meat. I love grilling,but I'm not a professional. I grill once a week to twice a week, and I usually smoke meat on holidays. This book has been has already given me a greater knowledge on how to skillfully do both of these. Christopher's wheelhouse is how to smoke meat, which I really appreciate because smoking is a longer process and requires a little more care. This book will help me and you be more proficient and capable on the grill or smoker. This book is not just helpful though, it engages you in how it is laid out. It also has a lot of recipes that are fairly easy to make but look awesome. Take these three things together, and you get why I rate Ultimate Book of BBQ so highly.Christopher gives a great overview of the history of BBQ (if you love BBQ, you are gotta love the history), the differences in BBQ by region, he talks about different ways to prepare the fire, different types of smoking wood, and gives a good overview of different types of meats to smoke. He tells you and shows you (via pictures) how to prepare all different types and cuts of meat. He gives recipes for sauces, rubs, and different ways to use the meat once it is smoked. He gives direction for how to smoke or grill all different types of foods: beef, pork, chicken, turkey, lamb, seafood, and veggies. He even gives recipes for things like skillet cornbread and homemade pickles.If you are a weekend warrior griller (which most of us are), this book is for you. If you are just getting into cooking on a grill or smoking meat, this book is for you. It would make a great gift for anyone that enjoys these as well. I think you will find it as helpful and as engaging as I have.

What a great cookbook!It is a fusion of spice, ideas, techniques, and inspiration. It is a book filled with some old secrets of Southern BBQ and adventurous sauces, salsa, and sides for the modern cook.The Ultimate Book of BBQ is extremely helpful for the average person who doesn’t know all of the cuts of meats and doesn’t feel like they have time to spend in the meat market asking the butcher numerous questions about types of meat, how to cook it, and where to find it. Chris Prieto does a masterful job of explaining all of this; he is a born teacher with a drooling audience. These recipes are exciting and easy. We just needed the explanation so that we could have confidence at the grill! Prieto is an inspiring teacher!Grilling fish and anything past steak, chicken, and hamburgers didn’t happen in our backyard; we stayed with what we knew how to do. We no longer need to eat out to have delicious, adventurous, and easy seafood, ribs, and roasts. What an inspiration!One doesn’t have to be a “meat eater” to enjoy this book and the recipes. There are incredible recipes for grilled vegetables and fruit, side dishes, sauces, and salsas! There are even recipes for slow cookers and the stovetop.Southern Living’s Ultimate Book of BBQ with Pitmaster Christopher Prieto has breathed new life into our kitchen and grill and it has become my “go to” gift - no better gift than good food shared between family and friends!

The BBQ Bible
The pictures are gorgeous & it is organized in a way that is easily referenced by cut of meat. The basic rub recipe is amazing & you'll want to put it on everything. Bought a Weber kettle grill at the beginning of the summer and a few BBQ books. I've been grilling for years, but wanted to move from gas to charcoal & try it all from a fresh perspective. I cooked ribs, pulled pork, steak, chicken & used the side recipes too out of this book - they all seem regionally authentic & were delicious. I also purchased Weber's Big Book of Grilling at the same time & haven't used it once. The Ultimate book of BBQ got us through the entire summer with BBQs at least once a week!

Easy to understand
I was SO very excited when I finally received this book. It's absolutely enthralling from cover to cover, and everything and more than anyone would want out of a BBQ cookbook. Not only mouth watering recipes but VERY helpful tips from Pit Master Christopher Prieto that will help take my current BBQ cooking skills to the next level. Easy to understand, uncomplicated ingredients, beautiful photos that draw you in. Pretty close to a one-stop shop of anything you would need to put on a BBQ for family & friends. Award Winning Rub recipes, side dishes, old stand-by sauces, unique new sauces, meats of all varieties - even new things to pickle!! Can't wait to try them all.BUY THIS BOOK...you won't regret it!!

Best BBQ Smokin' and Grillin' book with many sauces, rubs, and sides
This book has it all from setting up your fire to finishing with sauces and sides for pork, beef, fish and fowl. We have bought 5 copies for relatives and friends and everyone is enjoying cooking out. We have tried about 4 rubs and 6-7 sauces and all are delicious. It will take us 2 years to try many of the recipes. You will not be disappointed! We upgraded smoker from a Brinkmann (lasted 24 ys) to Joe's Oklahoma Smoker this spring and now have excellent control of temperatures and smoking for 8-10 hrs without refueling. Friends have used medium Weber smoker and that one works well, also.

Great Guidance even for beginners
This book contains the fundamentals for Smoking/BBQ but also recipes for inside.I live in NC and I have been in Chris P. restaurant many times so this is great reference book for me.Totally recommended.
