LeifheitScrew Rings for Preserving Jar(Pack of 12)

When I received my pack of 12 83mm Leifheit metal disc lids I was very annoyed to find them incredibly thin, half the thickness of the kilner original ones that are no longer made! Far to thin and needlessly so when the amount of metal to make one disk must be minuscule and I feel there is no need of the Manufacturer to cut corners on quality like this! (I was surprised to find them like this being that they are German made). On the practical side I found when using them, because they are so thin, if you don't use an original kilner screw band ie you use a Ravenhead plastic band or a Leifheit band they will leak!

At last! These are a bit thin (hence the 4 score) so probably won't last as long as my original tops, but at least they fit.Having bought so-called kilner tops from Lakeland, and other places, only to find they are NOT the standard size that I have had for the past 40 years, I despaired of finding replacements until pointed to these.

With over 200 later-type Kilner jars in use, we're going to be mightily miffed if Leifheit ever stop making these. OK, the steel's not quite as thick as the genuine Kilner ones were, but it's thicker than those horrible metal lids that Kilner now get made in China for their current production jars. PPerfectly good enough for the job and the seal material is good too. We reckon on re-using each one at least three times!

These Screw Bands screw on ok to the 83mm Dual purpose Jars but when you go to tighten them down the metal band slips back over the glass thread rendering it not tight again. This is because the bans don't have the right thread for the kilner jars! I tested a pack of 12 Leifheit bands on numerous different 83mm DP kilner jars and the results were the same! Other reviewers finding them ok must be because they are not screwing them down properly¬

I bottle a lot of the fruit which we grow, keeping us in stewed fruit over the winter and spring. These lids are essential as part of the bottling. You can't re-use them so cleaning is irrelevant. But they are ultra-convenient and make the bottling possible.
