Q: How exactly do they hold down a tarpaulin?

Using bungee ball ties to secure a tarpaulin is quick and easy. Push the loop end of the tie through the eyelet on the canvas from the bottom, and pass the end of the loop through the middle of the cord between the canvas and the ball. Tighten the end of the loop to leave the ball resting on the eyelet of the tarpaulin. Wrap the end of the loop around the frame, pull it over the ball, and let go of the loop. The end of the loop should fit under the ball. If not, wrap the cord around the frame twice before securing it under the ball. The tie stays attached to the tarpaulin when you detach it from the frame later, making it easy to attach the canvas to the frame in future.

Q: will these do to tie garden bench

I don't quite know what you mean but if of any help I use them to secure a clear tarpaulin plastic sheet to the rear of a small 2.4x 1.5mt . metal garden gazebo to prevent an annoying occasional east breeze causing discomfort when sitting in garden. The tarp has prepared brass eyelets thro which I pass the bungies and attach /loop over the metal frame to secure. They are handy for quick taking down of tarp if very windy to prevent gazebo taking off[solved this by putting frame legs in planters with postcrete and some earth for small plants] The bungies have so far performed well and reasonably strong for my purpose [ ie; no complaints so far ] but have their limits would not think any good if used for a structural purpose or likely to be used where tension is essential to secure an item.

Q: From the top of the trailer to the bottom is 4x6 what is the best size for a overlap.

Don’t know, haven’t found how to use mine yet, 😐

the actual product is very good great value for the money paid there was however one "BIG" problem i checked the tracking information it says that the item was delivered (handed to the resident myself) however it was not handed to me it was left on my doorstep the deliverer did not even ring my doorbell ! i found it when i looked out of my window. owing to the fact it only cost a few pounds i am not unduly bothered by that "BUT" what if my item had been hundreds of pounds would it have been left on my doorstep ? very poor delivery i have to say. that is why in this review i only gave it 3 out of 5 stars.
